Stain resistance in polished porcelain tile can be controlled by densification behaviour and microstructural properties of bodies. It is well known that both petalite and nepheline syenite modify the glassy phase in ceramic body and yields the homogeneous pore distribution in microstructure. Therefore, Na-feldspar in body formulation was replaced with the same amounts of petalite and nepheline syenite to improve stain resistance of porcelain tiles and the effect of these raw materials on the stain resistance were investigated. The stain resistance with densification behaviour, water absorption, linear shrinkage and bulk density of the samples were determined. The results show that the presence of petalite and nephelinesyenite positively influences the sintering behaviour, increases shrinkage, decreases open porosity and improves the stain resistance with respect to standard bodies.
