Drainage basin analysis using geomorphic indices: Case study of Bayramdere basin, Biga Peninsula, Çanakkale

Abstract

In this study, drainage basin development of the Bayramdere creek discharging into the Sea of Marmara and structural factors that control basin development are discussed on the basis of morphometric analyses and geomorphic indice studies. The three geomorphic indices (SL, Vf and T) showed the effects of tectonics in erosion of the geologic structures of the basin. Especially, the fault, which is evidenced by the distribution of epicenter data, where the creek is dislocated about 1 km towards the southwest, was found to be the principal structural factor. Field data suggest that high-angle normal faults played an important role in both construction and the development of drainage in the basin.

BAYRAMDERE HAVZASINDA (BİGA YARIMADASI, ÇANAKKALE) HAVZA GELİŞİMİNİN MORFOMETRİK ANALİZLER VE JEOMORFİK İNDİSLERLE İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Biga Yarımadası’nın kuzey kıyılarından Marmara Denizi’ne dökülen Bayramdere’nin drenaj havzasının gelişimi ve havza gelişimini kontrol eden yapısal faktörler morfometrik analizler ve indis uygulamalarına göre ele alınmıştır. Uygulanan üç indis çalışması (SL, Vf ve T) havzanın geliştiği jeolojik yapının akaçlanmasında tektoniğin denetleyici olduğunu göstermektedir. Özellikle havzanın yukarı kesiminde, akarsuyun 1 km’lik yatak boyunca güneybatıya yönlendiği kesimde yer alan ve deprem episantrlarının sıralandığı fay havzadaki en önemli yapısal unsurdur. Arazi verileri yüksek açılı normal fayların drenaj kuruluşu ve havza gelişiminde önemli rol oynadığını göstermektedir.
