Abstract

Abstract

Calling refers to evaluating a job with a sense of meaning and purpose as a means of providing benefit to society. The calling is expected to add meaning to life and provide life satisfaction. The calling and meaning in life seems likely to support volunteering for informal jobs and collaborative behaviors. In order to test this expectation and possibility, research has been conducted on the employees serving disadvantaged groups in the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services Provincial Directorates. To investigate the relationship between professional love and prosocial work behaviors in social workers and the mediating effect of the meaning of life on this relationship. With a convenience sampling method, 279 participants were reached. Data were collected by survey technique. The data were analyzed with IBM AMOS 23 and SPSS 22 package programs. As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that the calling had an effect on both the meaning in life and prosocial service behaviors. At the same time, level of the meaning in life has been found to affect prosocial service behavior. However, the most important finding is the mediating effect of the meaning in life in the relationship of the calling with prosocial service behaviors.
