Abstract

In this study, it was intended to determine the effect of pre-harvest lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE) administration on the color, quality, and post-harvest durability of cherry fruits. The work was carried out in a cherry orchard established with the "Regina" variety in Tavas district of Denizli province. Foliar LPE applications to cherry trees were administered in two different ways, 14 and 7 days (LPE 14 + 7) before harvest, and only 7 days before (LPE 7) at a dose of 20 ppm. Trees that were only treated with water from the leaf were considered controls. While some of the cherry fruits harvested during the ripening period were reserved for post-harvest measurement and analysis, the other ones were pre-cooled with water and stored at 0°C and 90% proportional moisture for 30 days in modified atmospheric packaging. L*, a*, b*, C*, h° values of cherry berries treated with LPE 14+7 were found to be lower than the control. The cherry berries with this treatment scored higher sensorily in the color scale. The firmness value, the amount of anthocyanin, and total soluble solids (TSS) content of cherry berries treated with LPE 14+7 after both harvest and storage were found to be higher than the control. As a result, it was found that the LPE 14+7 application improved the coloration of 'Regina' cherry berries and increased the firmness and TSS content.
