Dünya Merinos Irkları ve Bunların Genel Özellikleri

Abstract

Günümüzde dünya genelinde çok çeşitli koyun ırkları bulunmakla beraber, tekstil endüstrisinin kullandığı kaliteli yün lifi merinos ırkından gelmektedir. Merinos ve bunların soylarından türeyen ırklar dünyanın her yerine yayılmış durumdadır. Farklı üretim yeteneklerine sahip birçok merinos soyu vardır. Alman Etçi Merinos ve Güney Afrika Dohne Merinos gibi et ve yapağı üreten çift verim yönlü soylar bunlar arasında sayılabilir. Ancak bugün dünya çapında en çok sayıda bulunan yapağı üretimi yönünde özelleşmiş tiplerdir. Özel yapağı üreten merinosların en büyük popülasyonu Avustralya’da bulunmaktadır. Günümüzde artık safkan merinosların yanı sıra bunların diğer ırklarla melezlenmesiyle üretilmiş hibrit genotipler de mevcuttur. Merinoslar verim özelliği açısından yapağı yönlü ve et/yapağı yönlü olarak temelde iki gruba ayrılmaktadır. Bu derlemede Merinosun tarihçesi, merinos ırkları ve bunların genel özellikleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir.

Abstract

Although there are a wide variety of sheep breeds around the world today, the quality wool fiber used by the textile industry comes from the Merino breed. Merinos and their descendants are spread all over the world. There are many merino strains with different breeding abilities. These include meat and fleece producing bi-productive strains such as the German Meat Merino and the South African Dohne Merino. However, they are the types that are specialized in the direction of fleece production, which are the most abundant in the world today. The largest population of specialty fleece-producing merinos is found in Australia. Today, in addition to purebred merinos, there are also hybrid genotypes produced by crossing them with other breeds. Merinos are basically divided into two groups in terms of yield characteristics, fleece-oriented and meat/fleece-oriented. In this review article, information was given about the history of merino, the merino breeds and their general characteristics.
