Bio

Prof. Danijela Vasić earned her BA, MA and PhD from the Japanese Language and Literature Department of the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, where she works as an Associate Professor of Japanese Language and Literature. Her fields of interest include the poetics of Japanese ancient and oral literature, and its comparative contexts in other peoples’ traditions. She has published a number of studies and papers in scientific and professional journals, as well as three monographs: The Sun and Sword: Japanese Myths in the Kojiki (2008); Taketori Monogatari ‒ the Moon Princess: Oral and Written in Ancient Japanese Literature (2013), which won the “Veselin Lučić Award“ for the best scientific, or professional achievement made by professors and researchers at the University of Belgrade, published in the 2013th year; The Japanese Folk Tales ‒ Nihon no Mukashibanashi (2016), which consists of a study about Japanese oral literature, and the translation of 41 orally transmitted mukashibanashi, with explanations. Prof. Danijela Vasić has also published several books of translations from Japanese language, for example of Akutagawa Ryunosuke and Mori Ogai. Among them there are also translations of the oldest works of Japanese literature: the Kojiki and the Taketori monogatari (in collaboration with colleagues from the Japanese Department), as well as two anthologies of Japanese folk tales. Due to the complexity and great importance, the translation of the Kojiki received a special award of Japanese Association of Translators (2008). Prof. Vasic a member of the Association of Japanese Language Teachers in Europe (AJE), member of the European Association for Japanese Studies (EAJS), secretary of the Committee of the Serbian Association of Japanologists, member of the Serbian Association of Folklorists, etc.
