Bio

I am a Research Scientist at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), where I have been working since July 2019. Holding a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Fisheries Science from Pukyong National University (PKNU), renowned as the World Fisheries University in South Korea, I also possess a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology from The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). My professional journey has ignited a profound passion for the exploitation, management, conservation, and governance of our natural resources.
My approach is characterized by strategic thinking, innovation, and a resolute commitment to achieving tangible outcomes. My enthusiasm extends to nurturing the growth of my peers, as I am dedicated to their professional development. Over the years, my work has encompassed a diverse array of freshwater and marine organisms, spanning from tilapia, catfish, and prawns to lobsters, sea cucumbers, milkfish, silver pompano, crabs, and rabbitfish.
A central aspect of my career revolves around the empowerment of coastal communities through initiatives like seaweed farming and broader aquaculture establishment across both marine and freshwater environments. Currently, my research project casts its focus on the potential of the Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture System (IMTA) in cultivating marine shrimps, sea cucumbers, cockles, and seaweeds within marine earthen ponds and cages along the coastal regions of Kenya.
In my pursuit of innovative solutions, I have pioneered various technologies, most notably the production of Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL). This pioneering work addresses the pressing challenge of sourcing alternative protein for fish feed, thereby contributing to waste reduction and environmental preservation.
My active engagement within the professional community includes serving as a Rapporteur in a knowledge-sharing fair conference centered around the blue economy. I am genuinely invigorated by leadership that prioritizes people, fosters collaboration, and engenders positive impacts on both the environment and communities. Through a consistent track record of achieving set goals, I am poised to tackle new challenges that further expand my capacity to serve humanity more effectively. My appetite for learning is unyielding, as I eagerly embrace opportunities to enhance my skill set and contribute to the betterment of humankind.
