Bio

I am a Research Associate in the Institute of Biological Chemistry at Washington State University, USA. I am working on the characterization of a novel triacylglycerol (TAG) remodeling pathway for the accumulation of industrially valuable hydroxy fatty acids in Physaria fendleri (Lesquerella), and in Camelina. I am using functional genomics and CRISPR/cas9 genome editing technologies to improve hydroxy fatty acids and total seed oil content. Since Physaria is self-incompatible which major hurdle for its transformation, so in another project, I am trying to knock out some of the potential target genes using a Multiplex CRISPR/cas9 system to make it self-compatible.

Before joining WSU, I worked as a postdoc at Swedish Agricultural University, Sweden, and at Michigan Tech, MI, there I investigated how environmental factors control the growth and dormancy cycle in temperate perennial trees. I also used a Multiplex CRISPR/Cas system to target some of the flowering genes to generate containment technology in poplar (Science, 2018; Nature Communications, 2018, 2021; Plant Biotechnology Journal, 2021).
